‘Tis The Season to Enjoy the Annual Christmas Carol Event
When the sounds of Christmas caroling echoed throughout Carillon Assisted Living’s North Raleigh facility last December, it reminded resident Mary Burkhardt of singing with her sons after baking Christmas cookies.
“I used to do a lot of singing with my boys, even though I’m not a good singer,” recalls Mary, who moved to North Raleigh about a year ago. “The caroling event brings back memories, especially, ‘You’d better watch out, you better not cry,’ (the opening lines to the traditional favorite, Santa Claus is Coming to Town).
“I made German sugar cookies that my grandmother used to make,” she adds. “They were my sons’ favorites. We had four boys with healthy appetites.”
Residents at each Carillon Assisted Living community will soon relive their favorite memories with the arrival of the most magical of seasons. In celebration, residents will gather with family, friends and neighbors to welcome the Christmas season in true Carillon style.
Everyone will enjoy a warm flickering fireplace, glittering Christmas decorations and traditional Victorian carolers as they sip delicious hot chocolate, mulled apple cider, and other festive favorites.
No matter where they live, Burkhardt says residents and visitors alike will enjoy the decorations, good food and joyous singing.
“The combination of it all is very Christmas-y,” says the native of Maryland, whose two living sons reside in Raleigh and Garner. “It gives you a warm feeling in your heart. It’s the same kind of feeling you get when you’re in your own home.”
The Carillon Christmas Carol is one of three Signature Events that are held each year in partnership with local charities. Carillon’s Jazz and Juleps event is held in July, and the Antiques Extravaganza Road Show takes place in September.
