Meet the Management Team

Karen E. Moriarty, President & CEO
Karen Moriarty founded Carillon Assisted Living as President and CEO of the company, overseeing the company’s development and overall operations. Karen is a 1989 graduate of Stanford University Graduate School of Business and received an A.B. in International Relations from Stanford in 1985.
Kenneth C. Kirkham, Chief Operating Officer
Ken Kirkham, CPA, joined the company as Chief Financial officer in April 1998 and has transitioned into the role as Chief Operating Officer.  Ken has had an extensive financial and operational background, along with start-up, turnaround and merger and acquisition experience over a twenty-seven year career.  Prior to joining Carillon, Ken was Chief Operating Officer for Bono’s Pit BBQ restaurant chain.  Ken graduated from Pace University in 1980, receiving both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in four years.
Mary Ann Joyce, RN, Vice President of Operations
Mary Ann manages the day-to-day operations of all Carillon communities. She works closely with each Executive Director to ensure that the community is in compliance with all company policies and state regulations. She is also the primary liaison between Carillon and all regulating agencies. Prior to joining the Carillon team in January, 2001, Mary Ann was the Chief Operating Officer / Administrator with HealthSouth Rehabilitation Hospital in Charleston, SC.

J. Keith Ensey, Regional Director of Operations
In coordination with the Vice President of Operations, Keith oversees daily operations for the facilities within his region. He assists the Executive Directors to achieve designated goals and optimize operational efficiencies. Keith has worked in adult healthcare industry for 11 years throughout the Southeast.

Todd Key, Regional Director of Operations
In coordination with the Vice President of Operations, Todd oversees daily operations for the facilities within his region. He assists the Executive Directors to achieve designated goals and optimize operational efficiencies. Todd has worked in the healthcare industry for 20 years throughout North Carolina.
Janie Benton, RN, Director of Clinical Services
Janie works with the Resident Care Directors in all facilities overseeing clinical procedures and documenting the administering of medications to ensure the level of care received by our residents meets and/or exceeds the Carillon standard. Janie’s background includes hospital, emergency and rehabilitation experience.

Clint Lawhorn, Senior Regional Director of Marketing
Clint has overall census and general marketing responsibility for the western region of Carillon’s facilities. Working with Operations, Clint helps sets and monitors census-generating activities and goals related to lead generation, foot traffic activities and events and community networking, and works with facility Executive Directors and Marketing Directors to ensure that the appropriate activities are occurring. Clint is also responsible for the development of Pre-Opening Marketing plans for new facilities as well as Quarterly Marketing Plans tailored for each facility in his region. Clint has worked in the assisted living industry for 11 years throughout the country.

Richard Harris, Senior Regional Director of Marketing
Richard has overall census and general marketing responsibility for the eastern region of Carillon's facilities. Working with Operations, Richard helps sets and monitors census-generating activities and goals related to lead generation, foot traffic activities and events and community networking, and works with facility Executive Directors and Marketing Directors to ensure that the appropriate activities are occurring. Richard is also responsible for the development of Pre-Opening Marketing plans for new facilities as well as Quarterly Marketing Plans tailored for each facility in his region. Richard has worked in the assisted living industry for 8 years throughout the Mid-West.

Kerry Perkins, Director of Construction
Kerry manages all construction projects for Carillon Assisted Living, ensuring that our facilities are built to Carillon standards and meet all state codes.  Kerry graduated from the University of Maine in 1983 with a B.S. in Civil Engineering.  He worked as a Construction Project Manager for 15 years with a major supermarket chain and spent six years working as a general contractor on many of Carillon’s projects before joining the team in 2007.

James Smith, Senior Regional Director of Facility Maintenance
As Senior Regional Director of Facility Maintenance, James oversees the daily maintenance and preventive maintenance programs at all of Carillon’s existing facilities.  James has 10 years of experience in assisted living/long term care facility maintenance along with certifications in HVAC, Fire Sprinkler maintenance and Industrial/Commercial maintenance.
